SOAP Jan. 2 – Proverbs 2

Moral Benefits of Wisdom

I don’t think anyone will argue that wisdom is a great thing… but if we had 3 wishes would one of them be for wisdom? Maybe for some but a lot of people may put other things on the top of their wish list — important things like good health, healthy kids, or a good job and money. And so how often do we actually pray for wisdom?

It sounds like from verses 8-11 that if God gives us wisdom we’re pretty covered in a lot of areas: 8 for he guards the course of the just and protects the way of the faithful ones. 9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair–every good path. 10 For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. 11 Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.

Oh and then there’s v. 12 Wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men…

We all can use help with that!

So I think I’ll move wisdom up on my prayer list, it must be pretty important because there are so many proverbs about it;  clearly God really wants that to stand out in our minds.

Prayer: God thank you for your word. Thank you especially that you love us so much that you make it clear what you want us to do. Please help us to come to you and ask you for wisdom in all that we do and help us to discern your answers from the worldly answers.
