Proverbs 12

It doesn’t take long to recognize what our world considers a successful life.  Simply hit the “Seek” button on your radio and hear from what we call musicians, artists, all about what it is we consider a great life, a successful life.  Movies tell us what makes a great and successful life.  In all of their attempts to find what can make for a complete, whole life, they continually miss it.

Proverbs 12 keys us in to what’s really important.  Throughout the entire chapter we see two words repeated over and over.  Those words are godly and wicked.  As much as this is not a popular view today, there is a godly way and a wicked way.  The wicked are hostile toward God while the godly are those who seek justice and the things of God.  There is probably no clearer picture of the difference between the two than in this chapter.

“The plans of the godly are just, the advice of the wicked is treacherous” – v. 5

“The wicked die, the godly stand firm” – v. 7

“The wicked are trapped, the godly escape” – v. 13

“The godly give good advice to their friends, the wicked lead them astray” – v. 26

“The way of the godly leads to life” – v. 28

The challenge for us as Christians is to decide which life we will  live.  As you read through Proverbs 12 you have a choice to make.  We have to choose between what our world calls successful and what God considers a successful life.  Which will you choose?  Which life will you live?
