Proverbs 16

Does anyone else have a hard time reading Proverbs? It’s not hard to read at all, it’s pretty crystal clear most of the time — the problem I have is it’s hard to “swallow.” I keep reading and gulping… and saying to myself “wow, that’s me, I do that, don’t do that, should do that…”  That’s why I need to keep reading my Bible, so that this will sink in!!!

I think this chapter has a lot to do with your attitude; one verse you hear a lot is: 18 Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall (more commonly known as ‘pride comes before a fall’). But there are so many others that are making my stomach have that funny feeling — you know the feeling caused by guilt (or the Holy Spirit). 23 A wise man’s heart guides his mouth and his lips promote instruction. 32 Better a patient man than a warrior, a man who controls his temper than one who takes a city. And finally verses 3-4 remind me that I’m not in control and I need to give it up to Him: Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed. The Lord works out everything for his own ends–
