Proverbs 19

Take some time to think about your best childhood friend. Sure, maybe your friendship started because you had cool stuff or their mom had the best after school snacks, but soon enough your friendship blossomed. This was a person that you clicked with ….. someone you could really depend on!

What is the value of a good friend? I think that we all would have no trouble answering this question.

-Friends encourage us when we are down.

-They have our best interest in mind.

-A friend wants you to succeed.

No one argues the value of a friend!

I think that there is more to this chapter than meets the eye. It deals with more than just the value of friendship. This chapter dares to speak truth into……..Relationships! The proverbs in this chapter are honest about three things:

1.      What you need to do to build relationships

2.      How man’s action influence relationships

3.      What to watch out for in relationships

There is a lot of good stuff in this chapter. If we are in the business of building relationships (This means you… Christian) then we have to realize some of the truths about friendships and relationships.

Below are some of the scriptures that can be so ironic and relatable that they make you laugh out loud. Don’t laugh too hard because at the end of the day….. they speak an important truth.

 4 Wealth brings many friends,
but a poor man’s friend deserts him.

3 A man’s own folly ruins his life,
yet his heart rages against the LORD.

13 A foolish son is his father’s ruin,
and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.

15 Laziness brings on deep sleep,
and the shiftless man goes hungry.

 19 A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty;
if you rescue him, you will have to do it again.
